"An English Garden"

Origin: England

Date: 1780-1790

This pretty quintessential English fan is made of carved and pierced ivory sticks and a double handpainted vellum (swanskin) leaf. The sticks show flowers and shepherdesses. The front leaf is beautifully handpainted with a typical English romantic landscape surrounded by wild flowers and butterflies. The reverse is undecorated with the exception of a stylised foliage border.

Length: 11.25" (28.5 cm) Width: 20" (50 cm)

Condition: Very good, with good antique repairs on the leaf (mostly along the top edge) and minute losses on the sticks - nothing too distracting (see photos).
