Origin: France

Date: ca. 1895-1905

This beautiful fan is made of blonde tortoiseshell sticks and a single white silk leaf with a hand-made Belgian Duchesse lace border. The front of the leaf is handpainted with an 18th century musical soiree scene. The leaf is signed J. SERAND on the right (J. and R. Serand painted for Duvelleroy and other prominent French fanmakers - nothing is known about them, but they appear to have been a family of fan painters similar to the Billoteys and Bayards). The fan still has its original silk tassel attached to its carrying loop.

Length: 9.25" (25 cm) Width: 18" (46 cm)

The fan comes in a cardboard box (not original with the fan) that bears the label for NATHALIE, Sloane Street, London.

Condition: Excellent, with four small light beige stains on the lace (see photos). The box is good condition with very minor wear.
