"Bacchus/Dionysus" Handpainted Art Nouveau Fan

Origin: France

Date: ca. 1900

This lovely fan is made of mother of pearl sticks and a single cream coloured paper leaf that is made to look like a skin leaf. The front leaf is beautifully handpainted wiht a central mythological scene showing the infant Bacchus/Dionysus endulging in grapes, surrounded by putti and infant sartyrs. The reserves show stylised vines and grapes, fruit, scrolls, ribbons and doves.

Length: 9.5" (24.5 cm) Width: 18.25" (46.5 cm)

The fan comes in its original satin lined cardboard box.

Condition: Excellent, except for small age spots on the back of the leaf (see photos). The box is in very good condition.
