Origin: France

Date: ca. 1890-1897

This large fan is made of beautifully carved and gold painted ebony sticks and a single black French or Spanish machine-made lace leaf with a large black silk insert. The front of the leaf is handpainted with a young lady in flowing garments playing a string instrument and a putto on a dragonfly. The leaf is signed E. BAYARD. The fan still has its original matching tassel attached to its carrying loop.

Length: 14" (36 cm)   Width: 27" (69 cm)

The fan comes in its original unlabelled cardboard box. The outside of the box is beautifully embossed with putti and grotesque animals (very much in the Anglo-Saxon style).

Condition: Excellent, but the tassel needs attention and there is an excellent antique professional repair on an upper inner stick (see photos).

Price: SOLD
