Origin: China

Date: ca. 1820 (清朝 嘉慶帝/道光帝)

This fine double sided carved brisé fan is made of 21 ivory sticks that are connected via the original silk ribbon (the end ribbon on the guardstick was properly replaced, all the rest is the original ribbon). The guardsticks and inner sticks are carved on both sides with garden motif
scenes with figures (peasants, noblemen, fishermen, horse riders etc) in a garden, houses,  flowers, animals, birds etc. Several figures are carrying fans (both folding and pien mien).

This is a very fine example of this fan type.

Length: 7.5" (19 cm) Width: 13" (33.5 cm)

Condition: This fan is in very good condition with age appropriate patina. But the fan has repairs on both guardsticks that are barely visible (see last photos). One antique repair on one guardstick and a modern repair on the other guardstick - the only thing that can be seen on this guardstick are a few tiny missing filaments - the repair itself is not visible.

Price: £800

(including packaging & shipping via Registered, Insured & Tracked Airmail)
