Origin: France

Date: ca. 1925

This rare, very large, yellow ombré coloured Art Deco flapper fan (typically these fans have sticks of uneven numbers e.g. 3, 5, 7, 9,etc., as opposed to the much wider Victorian and Edwardian Ostrich feather fans) is made of genuine ivory sticks and very large Ostrich feathers. The sticks are carved with small pink and blue painted flowers. The feathers are a bright yellow colour at the bottom that gradually get lighter towards the tips (ombré style).

Such flapper fans were depicted by the famous illustrator George Barbier in fashion plate entitled "Eventails" in 1924 (see last photo).

This high quality fan was almost certainly made by Duvelleroy, Paris. The style is certainly theirs.
