Origin: France and/or England

Date: 1790-1795

This classic Georgian brisé fan is made of pierced and painted bone sticks that are connected via a silk or nylon ribbon (the ribbon appears to have been replaced in the past). The front of the fan shows small flowers and a handcoloured stipple engraving of a classical scene (probably Anthony and Cleopatra).

Length: 10" (25.5 cm) Width: 17.5" (44.5 cm)

This fan comes in a cardboard box by Duvelleroy dating to the 1840s. It came to me in this box.

Condition: Good, with an antique repair on the right guardstick and old repairs on the tips of several inner sticks (see photos). The must have had 2 additional sticks on the left side (possibly removed by Duvelleroy, hence the box). Minor rubbing of the paint (see photos). The box is in excellent condition.
