Belgian Duchesse and Point de Gaze Lace Mother of Pearl Fan by Duvelleroy

Origin: France and Belgium

Date: ca. 1895-1905

This superb fan is made of iridescent, silvered and gilded mother-of-pearl sticks and a single white mixed Brussels (Duchesse bobbin and Point de Gaze needle lace) leaf. The leaf is worked with flowers (tulips, daffodils etc) and foliage.

The tassel was almost certainly added to the fan by the original owner. The small ring at the loop was originally designed to hold a dancecard and small pencil (very typical for the period) - fans such as this were carried at balls.

Length: 8.75" (22 cm) Width: 16.25" (41 cm)

The fan comes in its original silk satin covered cardboard box which bears the J. Duvelleroy, Regent Street, London label on the inside of the lid.

Condition: Fan=Perfect, Box=Very Good, with small, light coloured age spots on the lid (just mentioned for 100% accuracy)(see photos).

Price: SOLD

(including packaging & shipping via Registered, Insured & Tracked Airmail)
