Origin: France

Date: ca. 1865-1875

This beautiful and large fan is made of heavy goldfish mother-of-pearl sticks and a trebble ivory coloured silk satin leaf (middle), a cream coloured silk leaf (back) and a handmade (at least it looks handmade to me - feels very fine) French black Chantilly de Bayeux lace leaf. The leaf is worked with sprays of flowers and foliage. The rivet has two past stones or cut glass set into it.

This fan comes in a cardboard box that is slightly later in date and does not originally belong with the fan, but it came to me in this box. I see no need to separate them, especially since the box protects the fan.

Length: 10.5" (27 cm) Width: 19.75" (50 cm)

Condition: Very good with very slight breaks in the net on two areas of the first fold on the right side and a slightly frayed top left corner of the leaf (see last photos). There is a tear in the backing silk leaf in the first fold on the far right side and adjacent old glue stain underneath the guardstick (see last photo). A few tiny age stains and a small pencil mark on the backing leaf. The sticks are perfect.
