"La Tauromachie - La Corrida - The Bullfight"

Origin: Spain

Date: 1865-1875

I recently saw a very similar early bullfighting fan that bears a poem by and the signature of Empress Eugénie (de Montijo), only as usual, I cannot remember where I saw it. This brisé fan is made of carved and pierced sandalwood sticks (they still retain their fragrance) that are connected via a silk ribbon (original). The sticks are inlaid with steel piqué. The front of the fan is handpainted with a bullfighting scene. The reverse shows bullfighting paraphernalia.
