Origin: France (probably Mulhouse)

Date: ca. 1890-1897

This very large fan is made of heavy ebony sticks and a double printed cotton (front) and black cotton (back) leaf. The front leaf is printed with a beautiful 18th century inspired courting scene involving a gentleman helping two ladies to cross a small stream. The print is very typical of fabrics produced in Mulhouse, Alsace, France.

Length: 15" (38 cm) Width: 28.5" (72.5 cm)

Condition: Very good, but the backing leaf has 3 moth holes on the far right side  and the cotton leaf has a small dark brown stains on the top edge (see photos).
