Origin: Spain

Date: 1855-1865

This beautiful fan is made of carved and pierced bone sticks and a double handcoloured lithograph leaf. The sticks have gold foil applied to them. The guardsticks have natural light pink coloured mother-of-pearl plates attached to them. The front leaf shows a fabulous central scene involving ladies, children and a courting couple in a garden, all wearing 18th century costume. The reserves are very elaborate and show a couple of swans, sea shells, coral, flowers, birds and scrolls in green, gold and white. The reverse shows two seated ladies, a young girl and a young gentleman, again all are wearing 18th century clothing. The reserves show Cupid's bow and arrow, scrolls flowers etc.

Length: 10.5" (27 cm) Width: 19.75" (50.5 cm)

Condition: Perfect, with the exception of a missing mother of pearl panel on the backing guardstick (lower end) - I am assuming that there was one there in the first place, but who knows? - it is not very obvious (see photos).
