This large 18th century fan is made of ivory sticks and a fine vellum leaf. The front of the fan is handpainted with a mythological scene showing Zephyr and the Goddess Flora accompanied by Cupid. The reserves depict fruit. The reverse shows a small central scene of a fishing gentleman. The upper guardsticks have an unusual feature – they are outlined with an inlayed gold coloured chain.
