Large mid-19th century fan made of carved and pierced sticks and a handmade Brussels bobbin appliqué-on-net lace leaf mounted on pink coloured silk. The lace is worked with sprays of flowers, arranged in a geometrical pattern.

Date: 1865-1880
This large and striking 19th century fan is made of carved and pierced bone sticks and a handmade Brussels mixed bobbin appliqué-on-net and needle lace leaf mounted on pink coloured silk (the silk is a modern replacement of a possibly champagne coloured backing silk leaf). The lace is worked with sprays of flowers, arranged in and around geometrical shapes. The loop has a large silk tassel attached.
Length: 10.5″ (27cm) Width: 20″ (50.5 cm)
Condition: Very good, usable condition. I note an older discreet repair/filling on one inner stick and two repairs of the lace on the far right side (see photos)
