19th century fan made of beautiful mother of pearl sticks and a handmade Brussels Point de Gaze needle lace leaf mounted on pale yellow coloured silk crêpe. The lace is worked with sprays of flowers.

Origin: France (sticks) and Belgium (lace)

Date: 1880s

This 19th century fan is made of stunningly iridescent goldfish mother of pearl sticks and a handmade Brussels Point de Gaze needle lace leaf mounted on yellow pastel coloured silk crêpe. The lace is worked with sprays of flowers.
This fan comes in its original 1880s cardboard box. The lace had previously been misidentified as Carrickmacross, as per the writing on the inside of the lid.

Length: 10.5″ (27 cm) Width: 20.5″ (52 cm)

Condition: Excellent, usable condition with a couple of small breaks in the net. The box shows some wear on the lid.
