Description
Origin: France and Belgium
Date: 1880s
This large 19th century fan is made of goldfish (greenish-pink) mother of pearl sticks and a handmade mixed Brussels (bobbin appliqué-on-net and point-de-gaze) lace leaf mounted on light cream coloured silk satin. The lace is worked with sprays of flowers. The backing leaf is a cream coloured silk.
This fan comes in its original box. Sadly, the lid is missing.
Length: 10.75″ (27.5 cm) Width: 20.25″ (52 cm)
Condition: Excellent, usable condition with an old, sturdy re-connection/knitting of the right guard (not a break, but where two sections of mother of pearl were joined to make up the length of the stick), as per photos. I also noticed two tiny faint spots on the lace (only mentioned for total accuracy) and some perfume spots on the back leaf.
