Handpainted Spanish Black Lace Fan
Spanish Art Nouveau style fan made of beautifully carved ebony sticks and a single black Spanish lace leaf with a silk insert. The leaf is worked with passion fruit blossoms and handpainted with a Spanish courting scene.

This fan is made of beautifully carved, green and white painted ebony sticks and a single black Spanish machine-made lace leaf with a central black silk insert. The lace is worked with passion fruit blossoms (Passiflora) and has gold coloured sequins applied throughout. The silk insert is handpainted with a typical Spanish courting scene. The leaf appears to be indistinctly signed in red.

Condition: Excellent condition, with minor rubbing of the paint in the outer (raised) folds. The washers on the rivet are modern replacements (see photos).
