Large Victorian Ostrich Feather Fan


A very large Victorian Ostrich feather fan made of blonde tortoise shell sticks and natural, female Ostrich feathers.



Origin: France

Date: 1890-1910

This is a very large late Victorian or Edwardian Ostrich feather. Typically, these fans were worn with formal evening attire to balls, receptions, theatre and the opera (see for example the young lady in the pink evening dress shown in the French fashion plate dated to 1892).
The fan is made of blonde tortoise shell sticks (they are NOT blonde horn or early plastic) and very large, natural (undyed), female Ostrich feathers.

Length: 19.25″ (49 cm) Width: 33″ (84 cm)

Condition: Excellent, usable condition.
