Date: 1850-1860
This large mid-19th century fan is made of carved and gilded (applied gilded silver foil) dyed horn sticks and a double paper leaf. The sticks are dyed to resemble tortoiseshell – rare for fans of the mid-Victorian era. Both sides show handcoloured lithographs, the front a romantic pastoral scene and on the back a charming scene of two young ladies and a child harvesting apples. The reserves show gold coloured scrolls.

Condition: Excellent, usable condition, with an near invisible repair on the leaf.
