This glorious and very large “pleureuse” (waterfall) Ostrich feather flapper fan was made by Faucon, Paris. It is similar in style to the fans shown in the fashion plates which date to 1920 and 1923, respectively. This fan is made of blonde tortoiseshell sticks and very large Ostrich feathers that are dyed a redish pink colour that fades into a pastel pink towards the edges and tips of the feathers to create an ombré waterfall effect. Just bear a thought for the girls who had to hand-knot the extensions to all those individual feather filaments to create the wonderful waterfall effect. Ombré and “pleureuse” fans were very popular in the early 1920s.
This fan comes in its original cardboard box which bears the maker’s label for Faucon, Paris.

Condition: This fan is in excellent condition. The box has seen better days and has repairs and wear, but it still protects the fan well.
