Lovely late Victorian fan made of mother of pearl sticks and a single black silk leaf hand painted with young lovers. This fan comes in its original labelled cardboard box.

This beautiful fan was probably a gift for a beloved, young lady. It is made of carved, silvered and gilded mother of pearl sticks and a single black silk leaf. The sticks show flowers and foliage. The leaf is hand painted with a central scene of young lovers dressed in late 18th century costume and hanging baskets of flowers, ribbons and scrolls. He is playing the mandolin, while she dances holding a fan and a small bouquet of flowers. The leaf is also adorned with sequins and spangles.
This fan comes in its original cardboard box. The box is labelled underneath with a well-known fan retailer’s label: Noble Jones, Burlington Arcade, London.
