Very Large Mother of Pearl Duchesse Lace Fan
A fine, large fan fit for a bride made of white mother of pearl sticks and a handmade mixed Belgian Duchesse bobbin lace leaf with a central needle lace insert.
Origin: Belgium and France
Date: ca. 1885-1900
This fine, large fan is certainly fit for a bride!
The fan is made of white mother of pearl sticks and a handmade mixed Belgian (Brussels or Brugge) Duchesse bobbin lace leaf with a central needle lace insert. The leaf is worked with various flowers, foliage and scrolls. The centre shows a bouquet of flowers. The lace is a off-white/ivory in colour.
This fan comes in its original silk covered cardboard box. Unfortunately, someone removed the label from inside the lid, but I am quite certain that the fan was made/retailed by Duvelleroy or another well-known French fan maker.
Length: 13.25″ (33.5 cm) Width: 25″ (63.5 cm)
Condition: Very good, crisp, clean and usable condition. Two very, very small stains on the leaf noted – one has to look for them (see last 2 photos). Box shows signs of wear and the lid is missing one of the short wooden side panels (the silk is present though).
