Description

Origin: France

Date: ca. 1880/1885

This large fan is made of beautiful, iridescent pink and green mother of pearl sticks and a double black silk leaf. The front is hand painted with a courting couple dressed in late 18th century costume, set in a garden. She appears to be knitting. Both are observed by another lady, perhaps a chaperone. The painting is signed C. JOUANNE. The fan is much nicer than I was able to show in the photos, especially the sticks.

Length: 11.5″ (29.5 cm) Width: 22″ (56 cm)

Condition: Very good condition with minor wear along the top edge and rubbing of the outer folds – all commensurate with its age (see photos). The sticks are flawless.
